From a brewery in Trieste, the history of Italian beer.

A timeless movie, a synthesis of wisdom, entrepreneurial ability and love for total quality.

It was in 1766 that Empress Maria Theresa of Austria granted the first license to a brewery in Trieste, which settled in the ancient Borgo Teresiano, named after the sovereign.

1766

Who was Maria Theresa of Austria?

Born in Vienna in 1717, Maria Theresa of Habsburg was the first Empress of Austria, ruler of a vast empire. Mother of Joseph II, Leopold II, Marie Antoinette and Maria Carolina, her life was a mix of power and humanity. Despite her lack of political education, she showed interest in Law and Philosophy from a young age. After her father's death, she fought to retain the crown, introducing significant reforms during her reign. Both loved and contested by her subjects, Maria Theresa left an indelible mark on European history.

History of the Borgo Teresiano

The Borgo Teresiano, Trieste's jewel, takes its name from Empress Maria Theresa of Austria, visionary creator of a new commercial hub. This neighborhood, now a fascinating crossroads of history and architecture, stands out for its modern urban planning and architectural excellence. In 1730, under the reign of Charles VI, the city experienced an economic and demographic boom, prompting Empress Maria Teresa to expand her father's project by founding the Borgo Teresiano. Entrusted to Johann Conrad de Gerhardt, the development plan incorporated residential and commercial buildings, commissioned to renowned architects such as Matteo Pertsch and Pietro Nobile. This neighborhood, with its checkerboard structure, is an elegant testimony of architectural luxury.

Thus began, in a lively Trieste neighborhood, not only a chapter of our history, but of Italian beer as a whole. An adventure of wisdom and dedication learned from the Viennese master brewers, which we resume today, over two hundred years later, choosing as its symbol the lantern of Trieste indicating the safe haven for connoisseurs of good beer.

The smallest Italian beer company

“I have loved Theresianer since the very first beers we produced. I have chosen my favorite beers from the great Mitteleuropean tradition, and have instructed my experts to interpret them to the best of their ability. And we will continue like this, including many other beer styles, to continue to offer Italians all the creativity of the best master brewers”.

Martino Zanetti

In 2000, it was Martino Zanetti's entrepreneurial clarity that gave birth to Theresianer, in the Treviso brewery of Nervesa della Battaglia. And it's his decision to entrust the development of his beers to the skill of the best master brewers, with the certainty that quality starts with the ingredients and continues with respect for the best traditions. All this is part of a contemporary production and organizational process and a targeted distribution which allows our beers to reach all enthusiasts all over the world: a success confirmed by the market with prestigious international awards.
